And that’s interesting – I didn’t realise that was such a big sub genre on Amazon, but now you mention it I can think of a lot of books with a strong focus on mythology. YA is not a genre. That said, Harry Potter has a lots of separation and portal-like connections between the magical and non-magical spaces, so I certainly wouldn’t say someone was wrong if they called it portal fantasy – just by my personal understanding of portal fantasy I wouldn’t think of it that way.Fantastic list! I wonder, though, if some classifications (for instance, sword & sorcery, comic fantasy) could be considered rather as sub-genres, depending on their contents.
