I wasn’t disappointed. There were a total of four Harry Bosch books before Michael Connelly wrote The Poet, the first in the new Jack McEvoy series, who – just like Michael – was a newspaper reporter. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Connelly's Bosch books, and so I looked forward to this as Mcevoy appears in some of them. I'm not sure that the FBI really would allow a reporter to tag along on an investigation, but it sure does allow for an interesting tale by Mr Connelly. The story stays just on the cusp of still being plausible and believable rather than it being too far fetched. Thrilling story and great characters in this Connelly book enjoyed it had to follow up with Scarecrow enjoyed it that much Please try again. Not a chance! Excellent book; I love Michael Connelly. Bought and read this book before continuing the Harry Bosch series, as I love the "back stories" of characters in books, and was definitely not disappointed by this book!! Happy reading! So many talented FBI agents and Jack, a criminal reporter and journalist comes with the first solid lead that the deaths of the homicide cops is not suicide but part of premeditated serial murders. Remarkable book! The Poet won the 1997 Dilys Award.

Later the police find a body; however, it is left open if this is Backus.

The Scarecrow is a 2009 novel written by American author Michael Connelly. It was Connelly's 21st book (20th novel) and the second featuring as the main character Jack McEvoy, a reporter now living in Los Angeles, and FBI agent Rachel Walling. McEvoy then takes a leave from his paper to write a book about the events, although Walling explains to him that the book will forever taint the FBI because of Backus.

Now I must return to my world and catch up with everything that I should have been doing for the last few days when I just had to continue turning these pages instead. No Kindle device required. As I continued I came to regard this as boring padding to the plot developement.

The story is told mostly first-person from the perspective of Denver crime reporter Jack McEvoy and follows him as he joins forces with the FBI to track down the killer of his twin brother, a homicide detective. There was very little of the pageturning pleasure of the Bosch books.

After four Harry Bosch books I was tempted to skip The Poet and go right to the next Harry novel however after some research on the internet I was advised to read the Connelly books in order and so decided to give this standalone novel a try. Great job Michael once again!!!

However there was something about this that made me continue and for once I’m glad I did as it’s getting better and better the further I get it, the characters are coming to life.

I have now start "The Scarecrow" as I did not want to read Jack McEvoy # 3 without reading Book 2. Kept me interested right to the very end.

Having read all of Connelly's books to date I found this somewhat different.

"Prepare to be played like a violin.

Connelly writes suspense out of every possible aspect of Jack's obsessive hunt for his brother's killer.

However, Gladden's comments about his brother's death lead McEvoy to believe that Gladden was not the killer, even though the case has been officially closed. Takes a chapter or 2 to get into it, but then you don't want to set it down, suspenseful read.

Jack McEvoy is another great Michael Connelly character As always, Connelly's writing is superb and despite the decidedly uncomfortable subject of the crimes, sometimes its very difficult to put the book down.

A bit of info about Michael Connelly.

Many twists to the plot as usual a great read.

Finally I decided that the premise of the murders was just too farfetched and gave up one third of the way into it. It is a nice way to link all of Michael Connelly's books.

Since McEvoy knew that Walling had sent Thorson on a fake errand to buy condoms during the time the fax was sent, he suspects Walling of being The Poet and of posting to the pedophile network under the name "As Backus prepares to sodomize and then kill McEvoy, Walling (who was suspicious because of messages that she had received from both men) shows up and eventually saves McEvoy's life by knocking Backus out the window and down a long hill. I loved the character of Rachel or the "the painted desert" as per her ex and rooted for her happy end. Unable to add item to Wish List.

Horrid.

A tabloid publishes a photo of McEvoy and Walling together. I really enjoyed this book! Suberb writing by a master of his craft!

I’m glad I persisted and I’m glad for the little voice in my head that told me to.
