But just days before his release, Laura and Shadow’s best friend are killed in an accident.

The worst book I've ever read. The upshot is that even up to 2/3 or thereabouts of the way through, I thought I was reading a serious modern classic.

"It has been a decade since #1 New York Times bestselling author Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Anansi Boys, The Graveyard Book) rocked the literary world with American Gods … Armed only with some coin tricks and a sense of purpose, Shadow travels through, around, and underneath the visible surface of things, digging up all the powerful myths Americans brought with them in their journeys to this land as well as the ones that were already here. Dear, dear how I've loved this book.

Headline Review 2005-09-19, 2005. The story is a bit of a slow burn with some interesting atmosphere built up around each god's history, but in the end I found the main character so unbelievable and uninteresting that there was nothing to hold it all together for me.

This sounds as though I am doing this a disservice but I do not mean to as I enjoyed the novel but thought that it lacked some of Mr Gaiman's essentials and so would recommend other books of his as a first read.

Wednesday offers Shadow a job and together they travel across America as Wednesday introduces a number of colourful characters .

With his life in pieces and nothing to keep him tethered, Shadow accepts a job from a beguiling stranger he meets on the way home, an enigmatic man who calls himself Mr. Wednesday. Veuillez réessayerMalheureusement, nous n'avons pas réussi à enregistrer votre vote.

As much as I enjoyed this book, I could go on and on about the characters and the grand way this road trip of a story draws the reader along as a sort of, well, Shadow.

Unless the hero turns out to have prostate problems, I am at a loss to understand the author's inclusion of so many descriptions of the hero taking a leak. Very interesting book, read it after watching the program....needles to say that the book is better thank you for reading Life as Wednesday’s bodyguard, driver, and errand boy is far more interesting and dangerous than Shadow ever imagined—it is a job that takes him on a dark and strange road trip and introduces him to a host of eccentric characters whose fates are mysteriously intertwined with his own.Un problème s'est produit lors du chargement de ce menu pour le moment.

I gave up reading after the latter comment, so if I had slogged on to the end perhaps all would have been revealed by a friendly urologist.

Armed only with some coin tricks and a sense of purpose, Shadow travels through, around, and underneath the visible surface of things, digging up all the powerful myths Americans brought with them in their journeys to this land as well as the ones that were already here. Having read some of the glowing reviews and comparisons to Stephen King, I was more than eager to hand over my fiver and download the Kindle edition of this. For my birthday I was happy to recieve a copy of American Gods, and yet was very surprised to see that it was the author's preferred text version (I hadn't even known that were two versions).

I read this book, years ago. Headline Review.
