She always blows me away and her skills on this are no exception. The acoustical quality of this disc -- its recorded sound and balance -- is certainly among the best of her recordings, in my view. This is for sophisticated & properly grown up audience who likes easy listening, classy jazz (slow tempo) and bossa nova, lush strings arrangments. I love the dissonance and the orchestration in this and other similar albums she has done. The musicianship and arrangements are superb. As smooth as silk, superb album from Diana Krall. There are other gems on the Quiet Nights recording that are excellent as well. My favourite Diana Krall album. There's also a tendency at times to overarticulate in a "little girl" manner that isn't a good development. How to Use The Editor Formatting . It kind of leads on like a chain, but I keep coming back to listen to this one. This CD will lull you into a quiet romantic mood. There is clean, well-defined deep bass without bloat, smooth and well-balanced high frequencies without being bright or shrill, as with some of her earlier recordings, and Krall's voice and piano (perfectly tuned Steinway Model D Concert Grand) are well recorded for an excellent performance. Very stylish, atmospheric, relaxing but not soporific. This version is absolute amazing!! Certainly a good place to begin if you want to sample Diana Krall but then she seems to turn out consistently first class albums. On this album, as the title implies, Diana sings in a quiet, reflective, gently swinging style, often accompanying herself on piano with a subtle lush orchestral backing that never overpowers her voice. I like her voice when singing both jazz and ballads. This is a mixed review. 8.
If you like smooth jazz and piano, soft but powerful orchestral sound for jazz, this disc is very hard to beat! All in all, I'd love to hear another album of old standards set to a Samba beat.
