This last time our server was not particularly good however the food remains very good so I guess it was okay.Another fantastic meal at Matisse!

The bartender excelled at every cocktail we ordered - and did not skimp. Good though slightly frazzled service by our waiter on a busy night. Now's the time to support your favorite restaurants.Friendship Heights Metro (Red Line), as well as Tenley AU Metro. Matisse is located in between these two stops. This time, it was outstanding.

We shared the octopus appetizer, which was good but we would have liked it to have had a crispier skin. We find the menu is thoughtful planned. This last visit we found the soft jazz background music perfect for the occasion. We even tried the house favorite - the scallops - no flavor. Sea scallops and branzino were our table's entrees -- both perfectly prepared and presented with an artist's touch. The clientele is a bit older, so they seat earlier and the restaurant clears out around 9:30ish. Great ambiance. !Always nice. The chef made a special duck breast which was not on the regular menu upon my friends inquiry. You can’t ask for anything better to enjoy an eveningA great neighborhood gem— for some reason never rated but always reliably fine food, lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff make this one of the few remaining really nice restaurant experiences in upper NW DC.The tuna tar tar was terrific. and if you haven't been for a while, it's time for another visit.
The ambiance is lovely.Food was outstanding. We shared an apple tart which was yummy could have been a little less thin and more apple-y. Snapper with ceviche was out of this worldGreat place. Two of the four of us had Profiteroles and the other two had Matisse Meringue and it was also over the top. Excellent food courteous staff and charming ambienceExcellent food and atmosphere. Too many other French restaurants in town that are much better.Service was courteous and efficient. The kitchen also provided a dish of roasted celeriac (a side dish with one of the main course specials) as an appetizer on special request; it was served in a small cast iron baking pot and was heavenly.
But would try again ...This restaurant has been a favorite of our for over 20 years. Calamari was nice; mussels were fine although fries could have been hotter. Appetizers and entrees were served together and at the right temperature. The quality...Matisse is a great place for a quiet dinner with friends.
We had good service but I think others got worse.Excellent menu, delicious food. We are never disappointed in our meal here. Always a real pleasure. The food was fabulous.
Always a pleasure to go to this well run restaurant.Excellent food in a culinary sophisticated environment attended by a professional, knowledgeable wait staff. My wife and I go to Matisse regularly - it is a good restaurant but I have noticed that the wait staff is very hit or miss. This used to be one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. We asked for a table in the front room and were able to get one (not guaranteed) and the service was delightful. An unexpected surprise occurred when the sommelier replaced our requested St. Emilion with a more superior selection at the same price, explaining the bottle we had ordered was not in stock.
The food was ok but nothing amazing. Definitely worth to go back again. It was SENSATIONAL to dine inside at Matisse. Food is invariably creative and well-cooked. Our waitress tried to please but was overburdened by having to take care of too many diners. The scallops were dry and flavorless and were topped off by dry fried onions....We met up with some dear friends for dinner here and loved the whole experience! The wine list is good, the salads are presented well and the meats and...Our entrees took over 30 minutes to arrive after the hors d'oevers were taken away. There was no explanation or apology.
