Brilliant trailer!!! Radio, stage and television star Peter Lind Hayes, whose previous film was the 1948 release The Senator Was Indiscreet , returned to Hollywood for The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. with his wife and co-star, Mary Healy.

Theodor Seuss Geisel wanted to make a movie that would take into account the “Themes of world dominance and oppression coming out of World War II” and the result was a whimsically fun … In this brightly coloured world his mother (Mary Healy) is a prisoner in mind and body of the dastardly Dr T, while plumber Mr Zabladowski (Peter Lind Hayes) fits as many sinks as are required to house 500 boys in the "institute" being planned and achieve sanitary clearance.Written by Dr Seuss (the only original film he created), directed by Roy Rowland, and…Imagine watching THE WIZARD OF OZ and WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY while smoking some pot. The hooded elevator attendant is one of the most haunting characters I've ever seen. One of my favorite movies growing up was "In Search of Dr. Seuss" which featured live action recreations of Seuss's books. Fleeing Bart (Tommy Rettig) has come upon the "Dungeon For Scratchy Violins" (etc.) “Tomorrow, down below me, I will have 500 little boys, 5,000 little fingers — and they’ll be mine, all mine!” Synopsis: Fatherless Bartholomew Collins (Tommy Rettig) dreams that his nefarious piano teacher, Dr. Terwilliker (Hans Conried), plans to enslave 500 boys and force them to play an enormous piano with 5,000 … The plot isnâÃÂÃÂt really explained here, (and by golly, I canâÃÂÃÂt really remember the whole plot now) but oh, look at the colors in the trailer!

A real trip of a children's movie. Theodor Geisel was disillusioned after his vision was made more pop than he wanted, so he stuck to TV specials forever after; even so, the auteur is more Dr. Seuss than Stanley Kramer (who I'm still shocked actually produced this). I have trouble enjoying this genre because it can promote worthless lyrical material that gets in the way of telling a good story. In this dream, he is imprisoned in Dr. Terwilliker's concentration-camp-like piano academy, while…In my wildest dreams, I didn't believe this could have ever existed: a live action Dr. Seuss musical about McCarthy witch hunts, nuclear destruction, and that mean music teacher you had (probably not) when you were 12. The trailer narrates the storyline and highlights the technical features of the film. Tommy Rettig plays the boy; he later starred in the first 'Lassie' TV series. To that end, there is even some classic potty humor, mostly wordplay surrounding Zabladowski’s profession as a plumber.

I was not so much a fan of the musical numbers, which every popular movie of this era seems to have. The major blight on Bart's existence is the hated piano lessons he is forced to endure under the tutelage of the autocratic Dr. Terwilliker. Now known mostly as a cult novelty item than it should be, the 5000 fingers of Dr. T. is simply one of the most stunningly beautiful kidâÃÂÃÂs movies ever made, and this trailer certainly proves it.

I generally don't enjoy fiction with an added layer of "only a dream," but this one gets away with it.There's the added bonus that the film started out much longer, with 11 more musical numbers and who knows what else. If anything, It's SLOWER than the other tailers I've seen from the 40's/50's (See the late-40's Re-Issue trailer for "The Wizard Of Oz" to see what I mean). But none of the above puts me off more than one simple fact: this is a musical, and it definitely acts the part.
