Yes, some masks do have valves, especially ones which are known as “dust masks” which people use only to protect themselves (not others). Do you know of any reusable N99 masks without the valves?Unfortunately it appears that nearly all of the respirators with higher filtration efficiencies (such as that that offer 99% filtration) come with valves.
I am a teacher and I wear my mask a lot to try avoiding migraines from smells. The Cambridge Mask meets the N99 filtration requirements and provides very effective filtration against fine dust particles. Also, if someone's perfume or other cleaners or detergent is really strong it doesn't block it all.
