Roscoe Orman plays Willie Dynamite, an ambitious, arrogant, demanding, no nonsense street hustler who commands a respectable stable of women and always has his eye on the prize, the prize being to be the number one hustler in New York City (seems he's currently number two, although I'm not entirely sure the criteria the rankings are based upon). Willie Dinamita, Вилли Динамит It's criminal that this isn't mentioned in the same breath as canon genre fare like Shaft or The Mack, but it's proof that a major studio (this is from Universal) was just as capable at making their mark alongside - and at times at the expense of - their scrappier contemporaries. As Willie's world begins to crumble, Cora, a determined woman from his past, returns to try and rescue his girls from a future on the streets. Director Gilbert Moses Runtime 1 h 42 min Release Date 19 December 1973 Genres Crime, Drama Overview Willie Dynamite is a pimp who operates in New York City. Willie was a big success as a pimp, but now, just as fast as he rose to the top, he has hit bottom. But Willie's grand plans are challenged by competing pimps and corrupt cops who work together to shut him down. But then the movie turns pretty much into a drama and much more interesting than it was up to that point.A reasonable but daft exploitation flick elevated by a strong performance from Roscoe Orman, a catchy soundtrack and a reasonable story arc from riches to rags for the titled character. It's not quite as memorable as Dolemite but it's worth one watch.I’ve enjoyed many of these films because they’ve provided me with a variety of portrayals and images of black men…An attempt at something comprehensive. The film centers on Willie Dynamite, a New York City pimp who has the goal of being the best in the city. Everyone discover this ASAP, so I'm not the only one trying to copy Willie's style in 2018.I love the soundtrack, the costumes and the production design, but this left me a bit cold. However, things start to a social worker by the name of Cora who wants Willie Dynamite to give up the pimping business. I felt some of the characters were over acting at first, but what everyone was doing worked really well in the context of the film. It takes all of the issues it deals with seriously and left me with a lot to think about.Wow! He isn't an anti-hero like Superfly, rather he is just a guy who loses constantly throughout the film. Wonder why. But I enjoyed it anyway.Willie Dynamite starts out like your typical blaxploitation movie and Willie feels like your typical pimp lead, with all those damn bullshit outfits, slapping his women and everything. That said, I’ve always really enjoyed it. I think The Mack probably does what this one is trying better.Buried in a funkalicious soundtrack, lavish costumes and some spotlighting of systemic racism is a Greek tragedy about a man brought down by his own hubris, with an ending about as happy as it can be, given the situation. This is definitely one of the best blaxploitation films I've seen so far. But Willie's grand plans are challenged by competing pimps and corrupt cops who work together to shut him down. The cast was great. Insofern zeigt sich 'Willie Dynamite' reflektierter als so manche Genre-Kollegen, bei denen die Sozialkritik beim korrupten weißen Polizisten aufhört. She tries to get Willie to clean up his act before it's too late. Das letzte Drittel ist dann eine zerschmetternde Abwärtsspirale, die so gar nichts mehr mit den vollkommen übertriebenen Szenen und Outfits am Anfang zu tun hat.A Blaxploitation film that forgoes many of the genre’s staples and lines up with the socially conscious side of its output, A blaxploitation film without the hyper violent xploitation side but still an entertaining film none the less. Willie was a big success as a pimp, but now, just as fast as he rose to the top, he has hit bottom. This is the Good Stuff.I know that this is classified as a blaxsploitation, but damn is there so much more going on here. During the 1970s, U.S. Special Agent Cleopatra Jones proves to be an invaluable asset to the local police forces in the war on drugs. He makes great use of convincingly gritty New York locations and creates some energetic set pieces in the process, including a memorably suspenseful chase in a set of tenements. Willie Dynamite is a pimp who operates in New York City. Willie Dynamite (Roscoe Orman) is a Manhattan pimp whose life and career are documented in this blaxploitation flick.Willie makes it to the top of his precarious profession, only to hit rock bottom again in record time. I've seen dozens of Blaxploitation movies over the years and thought I had seen it all but, fuck me, Willie Dynamite takes the cake.Yes, that IS Gordon from Sesame Street (Roscoe Orman) so be prepared to have your childhood molested when you watch this. Willie Dynamite is a serious satire, where the violence against women is taken seriously, where the clothes may be outrageous but the film is downbeat on Willie Dynamite and his actions. Willie goes through quite the arc in this, starting off as the ultimate badass archetype, to becoming more humanized individual. In her last movie role, Diana Sands plays an ex-hooker who becomes a social worker. Not rated yet!
